For The Space-y

Got a spare bit of space? Have a driveway buy no car? These are a few ways to make quick or consistent cash throughout the year! I'll ignore the obvious of renting your house out to a lodger, so here are some more inventive ideas you may have not known existed!

Rent out a room for storage

Many people aren't very open to the idea of renting out a room in their house to a stranger to live in. So instead, why not rent out a room as storage space? Storemates lets you rent out rooms to those looking for some space. It's free to join up, thought there is a one-off fee of two weeks' rent via Paypal if you find a successful match (£10 minimum).
This is a relatively new thing so its hard to know what exactly to charge, though we recommend 40-60% of what the buyer would be charged commercially. We wouldn't recommend storing anything too valuable or something that's easily broken, but it's a lot less intrusive than a lodger.

Rent out your driveway or parking space

If you live close to a town, college or shop, this could be the perfect option for you. Many people have driveways but no cars, or a spare parking spot that never gets used. You would be surprised how much people are willing to pay for the pleasure of parking here. Back in college, my classmates would always rent parking spaces off the locals to avoid a parking ticket. However now this has become much more popular, there really is some cash to be made.
Spaces in London can go for up to £200 a month. You can use ParkatmyHouse* to list your space, though they do take a commission.

Rent out your house as a film location

At one point or another you've probably wondered who's houses are in all the big films, when the truth is it could be yours! The prices vary a lot but you can earn around £500 pounds a day doing this. No need to have a house that looks like the Four Seasons, you may be surprised what a desirible house might be for the next big blockbuster!

Rent out your car

This may sound odd, but it can be done. A lot of people only use their cars at the weekend, or at certain times of the day. You can use WhipCar to hire your car out privately to a neighbour or friend in exchange for cash. They even have a service which ensures if an accident does happen, your insurance policy isn't affected!
